Wittmann is one of the leading names in Rheinhessen, farming its vineyards around the village of Westhofen biodynamically. This dry Riesling Grosses Gewachs comes from the Aulerde site, a warm, historic vineyard first documented in the fourteenth century, where Riesling is planted in a parcel of heavy clay marl with a touch of limestone.
The rich, deep soils give the wine both generosity and tension. Expect ripe orchard and stone fruit on the nose, framed by a savoury, spicy depth and a fine mineral thread drawn from the marl beneath the vines.
On the palate it is powerful and textural, with juicy fruit balanced by firm acidity and a long, structured finish. This is a serious, age-worthy expression of Rheinhessen Riesling.
