This is a dry Grosses Gewächs Riesling from Dönnhoff, one of Germany's most celebrated estates, based in the Nahe. The wine comes from the Höllenpfad im Mühlenberg site, a parcel of old vines grown on soils of limestone laced with red sandstone, a combination that gives the wine both power and lift.
Expect a full-bodied and intensely concentrated dry Riesling, built around ripe orchard and stone fruit, citrus and a distinctive stony, mineral core. The palate is firmly structured and precise, with a saline, finely balanced acidity that runs through a long, textural finish.
Serious and age-worthy, this is a benchmark expression of top-tier Nahe Riesling that will continue to develop complexity over many years in the cellar.
