Massolino has been making wine at Serralunga d'Alba since 1896, and the family remains one of the reference points of the village, best known for its holdings in the great Vigna Rionda cru. This Langhe Nebbiolo is drawn from selected vineyards around Serralunga, on the mixed, limestone leaning soils that give the village its structure and perfume.
Fermentation and maceration run to around a fortnight, followed by more than a year in large oak casks, with the emphasis throughout on elegance rather than weight. The colour is garnet, the bouquet delicate and lifted with raspberry and violet to the fore, and the palate is smooth and finely drawn, showing the shape of Serralunga Nebbiolo without the demands of a young Barolo.
Ready to enjoy now with braised meats, mushroom risotto, agnolotti or a plate of aged cheese, and happy to sit in the cellar for a few years yet.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
