Matteo Correggia is the name most closely associated with the rise of the Roero, the hilly district on the left bank of the Tanaro river opposite the Langhe. Based in Canale d'Alba, Matteo championed the quality of the area's Nebbiolo and Arneis, and since his passing in 2001 the estate has been carried on by his family, who continue to farm with a strong focus on sustainability and site.
This Roero is made entirely from Nebbiolo grown on the area's distinctive sandy hillsides. These lighter soils produce a style of Nebbiolo that is more fragrant and finer boned than many from across the river, while retaining the grape's signature structure.
Aromas of violets and spring flowers open onto red cherry and raspberry fruit. The palate balances the full character of Nebbiolo with the delicacy and elegance typical of Roero, showing intensity and charm, a fine, clear tannic structure and a long finish.
Enjoy with roast veal, braised rabbit, porcini pasta or aged Piedmontese cheeses.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
