Luigi Baudana is a tiny Serralunga d'Alba estate of just four hectares, sitting in some of the most prestigious crus in all of Barolo. The Vaira family of G.D. Vajra took over management in 2009, retaining Luigi's vineyards and vinifying separately under his name with the same meticulous attention they apply to their own wines.
Cerretta is one of the great single vineyards of Serralunga, planted on calcareous-marl soils that produce some of the most powerful and structured Barolos in the commune. Baudana's parcel sits in the heart of the cru and gives a wine of real depth and density.
The 2015 is full-bodied and tightly knit, with dark wild cherry, dried rose and tobacco lifting from the glass over notes of cola, tilled earth and licorice. Firm, noble tannins frame a long, mineral-driven finish, and the wine is built to reward another decade or more in the cellar.
