This Latricières-Chambertin comes from Jean-Marie Fourrier's négociant label, the small companion to the family's Domaine Fourrier in Gevrey-Chambertin. Jean-Marie took charge of the domaine in 1994 after formative stints with Henri Jayer and at Domaine Drouhin in Oregon, and in 2011 he began adding wines from carefully chosen, long-held parcels under his own name, made with the same exacting approach as the domaine range.
Latricières-Chambertin lies immediately south of Chambertin itself, part of the celebrated run of Gevrey grand crus. Fourrier's fruit is drawn from a plot of roughly 60-year-old vines sitting just beside the Route des Grands Crus, which is what earns the Vieille Vigne designation.
The Fourrier style is all about purity and transparency. Grapes are sorted rigorously, largely destemmed and fermented with native yeasts, with gentle extraction by hand punch-downs and a restrained hand with new oak and sulphur. Expect lifted rose aromatics and layered fruit running from dark cherry to bright raspberry, with notes of crushed chalk, sweet baking spice and a hint of white pepper, finishing long and fresh.
