Echezeaux is the largest grand cru of the Vosne-Romanée sector, spread across the slope in the commune of Flagey-Echezeaux, upslope and to the west of the Clos de Vougeot. Its many climats give wines of fragrance and finesse, and old vines are especially valued for the concentration they bring.
This Vieille Vigne bottling is made by Jean-Marie Fourrier, who has led the family's Domaine Fourrier in Gevrey-Chambertin since 1994 following time with Henri Jayer and at Domaine Drouhin in Oregon. His négociant label adds wines from carefully chosen old-vine parcels to the domaine's line-up, made with identical rigour.
In the cellar Fourrier favours purity over power. Fruit is sorted carefully and largely destemmed, fermented with native yeasts and extracted gently by hand, then raised in barrel with only a small share of new oak and minimal sulphur. The result is a perfumed, transparent grand cru with red-berry fruit, mineral detail and a hint of spice, built for the long haul.
