Domaine Taupenot-Merme is a family-run estate in Morey-Saint-Denis with just over 13 hectares spread across some of the finest appellations of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Sister and brother Virginie and Romain Taupenot have run the estate together since the early 2000s and converted the vineyards to organic farming.
The Chambertin Grand Cru hillside is the heart of the Gevrey-Chambertin commune, with limestone-rich slopes and exceptional sun exposure that produce some of Burgundy's most powerful and long-lived red wines. Taupenot-Merme works prized parcels here that have been in the family for generations, vinified with whole-cluster fermentation and gentle oak handling to allow the precision of the terroir to come through.
The 2020 is intense, perfumed and remarkably structured, with red cherry, raspberry and rose-petal aromatics laced with sweet spice and a fine streak of orange zest. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, taut and fresh, with sappy red fruit, cool acidity and noble tannins guiding a long, mineral close. A patient cellar candidate for the long term.
