Domaine Jacques Prieur is one of Burgundy's most historic estates, founded in 1868 in Meursault and majority-owned today by the Labruyère family alongside the Prieur heirs. The domaine holds the rare distinction of owning vines in five of Burgundy's mythic appellations: Chambertin, Musigny, Clos de Vougeot, Corton-Charlemagne and Le Montrachet.
Chambertin is widely considered the king of red Burgundy, sitting at the heart of the Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Cru hillside and famously favoured by Napoleon. The combination of stony limestone soils, gentle east-facing slopes and exceptional drainage gives a Pinot Noir of unmatched depth, structure and ageing potential.
The 2020 is dense and tightly packed in its youth, with dark cherry, black raspberry and forest floor lifting from the glass over notes of spice, rose petal and sous-bois. Powerful tannins and saline minerality run through the palate, giving the wine the architecture it needs for a decade or more of patient cellaring.
