Les Vaucrains is one of the most revered Premier Cru vineyards in Nuits-Saint-Georges, situated above Les Saint-Georges in the southern part of the appellation. Domaine Henri Gouges holds just under one hectare of this stony, low-yielding site on limestone and clay soils, producing a wine of remarkable concentration and age-worthiness.
Hand-harvested and gravity-fed, the wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts before being aged for 18 months in barrel with a maximum of 20% new oak. It is bottled without fining or filtration. The 2023 is voluptuous and sensual, with aromas of red fruit chutney, violet, raspberry, liquorice and faded rose, layered with undergrowth and a grilled nuance. Built for 15 to 20 years of cellaring.
