Domaine Sylvain Cathiard is a family estate in Vosne-Romanée, run since 2011 by Sébastien Cathiard, who took over from his father Sylvain. Beyond its home village, the domaine makes a village Gevrey-Chambertin from a single parcel in the lieu-dit Champs-Francs, a relatively recent addition to its range.
Gevrey-Chambertin is known for some of the most structured, dark-fruited Pinot Noir in Burgundy, and here that power is tempered by Cathiard's silky, aromatic touch. Expect juicy black cherry and red berry fruit, hints of spice and earth, a supple, concentrated palate and a fresh, lingering finish.
Approachable relatively early yet capable of ageing, it is a fine match for roast beef, lamb shoulder, coq au vin or aged hard cheeses.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
