Argile is a dry white blend from Domaine des Ardoisières in the French Alps, combining Jacquère (40%), Chardonnay (40%) and Mondeuse Blanche (20%) from the domaine's steep terraced vineyards in Cevins and Saint-Pierre-de-Soucy. The south-east-facing schist and clay-limestone slopes are farmed biodynamically by winemaker Brice Omont, with gradients so severe that parts are still worked by horse.
Named for the clay (argile) component of its terroir — distinguishing it from the more silica-driven Silice cuvée — this wine is aged on fine lees in vats and old oak foudres, fermented with native yeasts, and bottled with minimal sulphur, no fining and no filtration. White flowers, pear and citrus meet a stony mineral intensity on the palate, with the characteristic alpine freshness that defines this remarkable domaine.
