Château Thivin is the flagship estate of the Côte de Brouilly, in the hands of the Geoffray family since 1877. 'Le Clos' (historically 'Clos Bertrand') is the estate's most historic vineyard — a walled south-west-facing parcel at the foot of Mont Brouilly, first planted with vines as early as 1383, as marked by an inscription above a small cave on the site.
100% Gamay from the walled clos, where pink granite mixes with the blue volcanic diorite of Mont Brouilly. Expect violet and rose-petal aromatics, wild strawberry, red cherry and a lining of blood orange, with a dusting of granitic minerality. The palate is supple and fleshy, with silky, fine-grained tannins and a long, volcanic-mineral finish.
Certified organically farmed and hand-harvested. Partial destemming followed by grid maceration for 10–14 days in the hillside cellars, then matured in oak tuns for seven to nine months.
