Cantina D'Arcy is a tiny project based in Serralunga d'Alba, working a handful of parcels in the heart of the Barolo zone with a lean, hands-off approach. The wines are made in very small quantities, with deliberate experimentation between cask, tank and bottle on a vintage-by-vintage basis.
The Pre cuvée draws its Nebbiolo fruit from the Preda vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba. In 2022 the wine was declassified to Vino Rosso because a portion remained in tank rather than completing the full cask ageing required for Barolo or Langhe Nebbiolo, with the balance sitting in barrel for around eighteen to twenty months before bottling.
2022 was a hot, dry year in Piedmont, where the vines worked under real stress and the resulting wines tend toward the fragile, perfumed end of the spectrum rather than blockbuster concentration. The Pre- is a transparent, savoury Nebbiolo built around bright red fruit, dried herbs and fine, gentle tannins, made for early drinking rather than long cellaring.
