Roagna is a historic Piemonte estate based in Barbaresco since the early 1900s, now run by fifth-generation Luca Roagna. The family makes deeply traditional, long-macerated wines built to age, working across some of the region's most celebrated crus.
The 2019 Barbaresco Albesani comes from a leased parcel in the commune of Neive, the same cru that is the source of Bruno Giacosa's famed Santo Stefano. The soils are rich in active limestone with a good presence of sand, lending the wine a distinct finesse, precision and beautifully etched mineral core. It shows classic Nebbiolo notes of underbrush, wild rose, leather, herb and camphor-like balsamic, with a vibrant fluid texture supporting refined tannins and a long, complex finish.
Fermentation takes place in cask with extended macerations of 60-90 days, followed by aging for several years in Slavonian oak botti. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
