Rabaja is the vineyard most closely associated with Bruno Rocca, and the wine that made the estate's reputation. It is widely regarded as one of the finest crus in Barbaresco, and in the family's hands it produces their most structured and most complete Nebbiolo.
The nose is deep and layered, moving through dark cherry, plum, rose, liquorice and tobacco, with sweet spice and cedar from ageing in French oak. The palate is powerful but never heavy, built on a firm architecture of ripe tannin and a long savoury, mineral line that stretches the finish out considerably.
Bruno works the fifteen hectare estate with his daughter Luisa and son Francesco, farming without synthetic fertilisers or treatments and encouraging biodiversity so the vineyards keep their natural balance. This is a cellar wine first and foremost; opened young, give it a generous decant and something substantial such as slow braised beef or game.
