Benjamin Leroux founded his Beaune-based house in 2007 after fifteen vintages as manager of Domaine du Comte Armand in Pommard. He buys only grapes, never juice or finished wine, and works across the Côte d'Or from Chassagne-Montrachet to Gevrey-Chambertin, alongside his own organically certified vineyards.
Les Hauts Jarrons is a premier cru on the Beaune side of Savigny-lès-Beaune. Leroux's fruit comes from vines owned by a close friend, planted on clay and limestone soils with a lighter, sandier clay component that suits a fine-boned, fragrant style of Pinot Noir.
In recent vintages the wine has been raised entirely in 228 litre barrels up to five years old, keeping the oak in the background and letting the vineyard's red fruit and freshness lead. It is a charming premier cru that drinks well relatively young yet will reward a few years in the cellar.
