Domaine Lignier-Michelot has deep roots in Morey-Saint-Denis, where Virgile Lignier began working with his father Maurice in 1988 before taking full control in 2000 and bottling the whole crop under the domaine label for the first time. The estate has since become one of the village's most sought-after names.
This Vieilles Vignes cuvée draws on three venerable parcels within the Morey village appellation: Les Cognées, which makes up the largest share, along with Très Girard and Les Chenevery. The vines are ploughed rather than sprayed with herbicide, and crop levels are kept low by green harvesting.
Whole bunches play a major part in the fermentation, with gentle pump-overs favoured for a soft extraction, before the wine is raised in barrel with a modest proportion of new wood. From the generous, sun-filled 2022 growing season, it offers ripe, fragrant cherry and berry fruit, savoury spice and silky tannins.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
