Domaine Lignier-Michelot is a family estate based in Morey-Saint-Denis, run by Virgile Lignier since 2000. Virgile worked alongside his father Maurice from 1988 and, on taking over, moved the domaine to bottling its entire production, while overhauling the vineyards by giving up herbicides in favour of ploughing and green harvesting to keep yields in check.
This Savigny-lès-Beaune takes the domaine south into the Côte de Beaune, away from its Morey home base. It is made in the house style that has won Virgile a strong following: a good proportion of whole bunches, gentle pump-overs rather than heavy punch-downs, and modest use of new oak, all aimed at freshness and perfume.
Expect a bright, aromatic red with red cherry, raspberry and rose petal, joined by a touch of forest floor and pepper. The palate is medium-light with juicy acidity and soft, fine tannins, making it a delightful Burgundy to enjoy in its youth.
