Arnaud Mortet farms some of the most coveted vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin, continuing a family tradition of meticulous, terroir-focused winemaking in the Cote de Nuits. The Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "La Perriere" is drawn from old Pinot Noir vines set on stony, clay-limestone and marl soils on the upper slope, just below the Grand Cru of Mazis-Chambertin.
This is a Premier Cru of poise and indulgent depth. Deep black cherry aromas are lifted by notes of fig and spice, while a portion of whole-bunch fermentation adds lift and complexity. The palate is tender and caressing, with a silky texture, seductive fruit and elegant, finely judged tannins that carry through to a mineral, persistent finish.
Pair with roast game, duck, beef or richly flavoured mushroom dishes. Approachable in its youth thanks to its silky texture, it also has the structure to reward several years in the cellar. Serve at cool room temperature.
