From Domaine Yves Cuilleron, a benchmark producer of the Northern Rhône based in Chavanay, founded by his grandfather in 1920 and run by Yves since 1987. The estate farms around 9 hectares in Côte-Rôtie, including a 1.5-hectare parcel of south-facing terraced vines on the Coteau de Semons in the commune of Tupin-Semons, in the southern Côte Blonde.
A blend of around 90% Syrah and 10% Viognier, co-planted on steep slopes of granite and gneiss typical of the Côte Blonde. The Viognier brings freshness, perfume and a silky texture, while the Syrah provides depth and structure. Expect a deep purple wine with a beguiling nose of blackberry, sweet spring flowers, spice and minerality, leading into a velvety, fine-grained palate with elegant tannins and a long, mineral-tinged finish.
Hand-harvested and partially destemmed, with native-yeast fermentation in open-top, temperature-controlled vats for around three weeks. Malolactic conversion in barrel, followed by around 18 months of aging in barriques before bottling.
