Penfolds RWT Bin 798 is a contemporary, opulent expression of Barossa Valley Shiraz, created as a stylistic counterpoint to the winery's iconic Grange. Where Grange is matured in American oak, RWT (the initials stand for Red Winemaking Trial) is raised in French oak, giving it a more perfumed, finely tuned character.
Drawn from the Barossa Valley, it is generous yet defined. Expect blue and dark-fruited aromas of blueberry and mulberry lifted by violet, with a signature note of tar and hints of spice and dark chocolate. The palate is richly concentrated but polished, with plush fruit, fine tannins and mouth-watering acidity carrying a long, savoury finish.
Powerful and beautifully balanced, it is a wine that drinks well in its youth but has the structure to reward extended cellaring.
