Wittmann is one of Rheinhessen's benchmark estates, farming biodynamically around the village of Westhofen. This dry Riesling Grosses Gewachs comes from the Kirchspiel, an east to south-east facing site that opens like an amphitheatre toward the Rhine and catches the first light of the morning.
Steeper in gradient with little topsoil over weathered limestone, the Kirchspiel produces a distinctly saline and spicy style of Riesling. Expect bright, spicy citrus fruit with a pronounced lime note and a mineral, chalky character drawn directly from the limestone below.
The palate is elegant and precise, dense yet fresh, with a silky texture and a mouth-watering, salty finish. This is a pure, energetic limestone Riesling built to reward time in the cellar.
