This is a dry Riesling Grosses Gewachs from Dönnhoff, one of the most celebrated estates of Germany's Nahe region. The Dellchen bottling comes from the steep, south-facing Norheimer Dellchen vineyard, where terraced slopes of volcanic porphyry and melaphyr rise sharply above the River Nahe. Small hollows in the rock, from which the site takes its name, hold slate and stony soils that give the wine its distinctive mineral signature.
Grown on such a sheltered, sun-drenched slope, the fruit enjoys a long ripening season and reaches full maturity while retaining bright acidity. Expect a deep, concentrated nose of ripe stone fruit and citrus, layered with a smoky, slate-like minerality that runs through the palate.
Full-bodied yet driven and precise, this is a powerful, structured Riesling with a saline, energetic finish. It drinks well now but has the framework to develop over many years in the cellar.
