Tenuta delle Terre Nere, the estate founded by Marc de Grazia on Mount Etna's north side, bottles its standout contrade individually. Santo Spirito is one of its Premier Cru vineyards, a seven hectare site in Castiglione di Sicilia that borders Contrada Guardiola and descends the slope towards the Alcantara river.
Nerello Mascalese vines of 60 to 100 years of age grow here at 700 to 850 metres on deep volcanic soils made up almost entirely of ash. This gives a sensual, succulent Etna Rosso with an almost fleshy bouquet of ripe red fruits, florals and spice, followed by a rich, enveloping palate. Despite its generosity it remains pure, balanced and refined, with silky tannins and a delicate finish.
Try it with roast poultry, pork loin or veal escalopes with Marsala.
