Founded by Marc de Grazia, Tenuta delle Terre Nere has played a major role in putting the single contrade of Mount Etna's northern slopes on the world wine map. Moganazzi, in the commune of Castiglione di Sicilia, is one of the estate's Premier Cru vineyards and began life as a tiny plot producing only a handful of barrels.
This Etna Rosso is made entirely from Nerello Mascalese vines aged 70 to 90 years, grown at 700 to 750 metres on volcanic soils of medium depth, with ash-rich topsoil lying over layers of stone. It shows a dense texture paired with a luminous, fresh character, opening with an attractive burst of red cherry, wild berries and earthy volcanic notes. With time in bottle it softens and gains an intimate, nervy richness.
Enjoy with roast lamb, mushroom dishes, slow-cooked veal or aged hard cheeses.
