Praeter Langhe Nebbiolo 2023 750ml
Praeter is the Piedmont project of an Australian winemaker who set out to learn the traditional craft of Barolo and Barbaresco at the source, working alongside local producers in the Langhe hills. The result is a Nebbiolo made with an outsider's curiosity and a deep respect for the region's heritage.
Langhe Nebbiolo is the more approachable expression of the grape behind Barolo and Barbaresco, offering the variety's classic aromatics and structure in a fresher, earlier-drinking style. Praeter's version leans on whole-bunch fermentation, a technique still uncommon in Piedmont, to draw out perfume and a fine, savoury texture.
Expect a pale but bright ruby wine with a lifted nose of red cherry, rose and dried herbs, edged with the classic Nebbiolo notes of tar and spice. The palate is medium bodied and fresh, with taut, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity carrying a long, savoury finish.
