Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey has built a formidable reputation from his base in Chassagne-Montrachet, best known for taut, mineral whites but increasingly sought after for his reds. This Monthélie comes from the Clos des Champs Fulliot premier cru, a gently east-facing slope of reddish clay over limestone, with plantings ranging from around thirty to seventy years of age.
Monthélie sits just beside Volnay and shares much of its neighbour's elegance while offering a distinctly fresh, red-fruited profile. The fruit here is fully de-stemmed and raised patiently in barrel with a restrained hand on new oak, preserving purity and lift.
The wine is bright and perfumed, with cranberry, raspberry and pomegranate meeting violets and a gentle spice. The palate is supple, tense and finely spiced, with hints of blood orange, red berries and a subtle nutty note building to a fresh, well-defined finish.
