From Paringa Estate, the Mornington Peninsula winery established in 1984 by former geography teacher Lindsay McCall on a derelict, north-facing orchard at Red Hill South in Victoria. Lindsay is one of the great pioneers of cool-climate Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Chardonnay on the Peninsula, and now works alongside his son Jamie, the head winemaker.
LJM is the latest addition to the Paringa Estate portfolio, taking its name from the combined initials of Lindsay and Jamie McCall, and is positioned as the pinnacle of the range, made only in exceptional years. Sourced from the oldest estate Pinot Noir blocks (planted in 1988), it is a selection of the very best single-vineyard barrels. Expect an ethereal, perfumed wine with dark cherry, red berry, rose petal, spice and turned earth, with great depth, silky tannins and a long, intriguing finish.
Hand-picked, destemmed and fermented in 3,500-litre French oak foudres, before ageing in a combination of new and seasoned barrels. The final blend is selected through extensive barrel tasting by Lindsay and Jamie.
