Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is one of the most sought-after addresses in modern white Burgundy. Founded in 2001 by Pierre-Yves Colin and Caroline Morey, the estate works small parcels across Saint-Aubin, Chassagne, Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault and Santenay, all in the same exacting hands-off style from a cellar in Chassagne-Montrachet.
La Maltroie is one of the great Premier Crus of Chassagne, sitting on a south-facing bench above the village. Its complex limestone-and-clay soils give wines that combine richness, depth and a real sense of structure, sitting comfortably alongside the most prestigious crus of the appellation.
The 2023 is layered and weighted, with white peach, ripe pear and crushed limestone aromatics opening into a deep, finely tensioned palate. Whole-cluster pressing at high pressure, native-yeast fermentation in 350-litre barrels and patient lees ageing for up to eighteen months without stirring give the wine real integration and a long, mineral close that asks for time in bottle.
