Champ Canet sits high on the northern flank of the Puligny slope, above the more famous premier crus that occupy the middle band. The extra altitude and the stonier ground make for a wine of lift and cut rather than power, floral where its neighbours are broad, and it is often the most immediately charming of the village's premier crus.
The aromatics are delicate and expressive, with acacia, lemon blossom and green pear over a fine chalky note. The palate is finely drawn and beautifully balanced, with bright acidity, a silky texture through the middle and a long, cool, gently saline finish.
Jacques Carillon works in Puligny-Montrachet, where his family has made wine father to son since at least 1632. The estate as it now stands dates from the 2010 harvest, when Louis Carillon's holdings were split between his sons Jacques and François, each continuing under his own name.
