Clos Reland is a walled parcel in Chassagne-Montrachet lying just below the premier cru of Champs Gains, and it is one of the more recent additions to the Girardin range. The position on the mid to lower slope gives the fruit a little more flesh than the sites above it, while the limestone underneath keeps the wine firmly on the taut side of the Chassagne spectrum.
The nose is smoky and intense, opening with grapefruit, white peach and struck flint before a note of toasted almond arrives. The palate is lively and tightly knit, with real drive through the middle, a chalky mineral texture and a long, clean finish that stays fresh rather than fattening out.
Pierre-Vincent Girardin is the thirteenth generation of a Burgundian winemaking family and the son of Vincent Girardin. He founded his own estate at Meursault in 2016 and released his first wine at nineteen, working with natural fermentations and raising everything in oversized 456 litre barrels that temper the oak influence.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
