Domaine de la Pousse d'Or is one of Burgundy's most revered estates, with a history stretching back to the 17th century in Volnay. Now under the stewardship of Patrick Landanger, the domaine practises organic and biodynamic viticulture across its exceptional portfolio of premier and grand cru vineyards. The Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Le Cailleret is sourced from a prized parcel situated directly above the legendary Montrachet Grand Cru, on the border of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet in the Cote de Beaune.
Made from 100% Chardonnay grown on very stony limestone soils, the grapes are hand-harvested and fermented on indigenous yeasts before ageing for around 12 months in French oak barrels with up to 50% new wood. The wine is bottled by gravity and left unfined and unfiltered, preserving its natural character and purity of expression.
On the nose, this wine offers an enticing bouquet of almond paste, exotic fruits and white flowers, underpinned by a striking flinty minerality. The palate is precise and silky, revealing layers of white peach, citrus and sea salt, finishing with an elegant toasty note. A wine of remarkable depth and complexity, it drinks beautifully in its youth but will reward careful cellaring for a decade or more.
