Gattinara sits in Alto Piemonte, where volcanic, porphyry-rich soils and a cooler mountain climate give Nebbiolo a profile distinctly different from its more famous Langhe expressions. Nervi is the oldest cantina in the appellation, founded in 1906, and since 2018 has been part of the Conterno family stable, with the legendary Barolo house steering the estate.
The 2022 captures the elegance that has become the signature of this site. Crushed flowers, red cherry, raspberry and pomegranate sit at the front, lifted by mineral, chalky and white-pepper accents. The palate is finessed rather than weighty, with fine-grained tannins and bright acidity carrying the fruit through a long, savoury close.
A graceful introduction to Alto Piemonte Nebbiolo that drinks beautifully with truffled pasta, slow-braised rabbit, or aged hard cheeses.
