Mount Mary is a family-owned, single-vineyard estate in the heart of Victoria's Yarra Valley, established in 1971 by Doctor John and Marli Middleton. It was one of the first vineyards planted in the modern revival of the region. Today the estate is run by the Middleton family, with grandson Sam Middleton as winemaker since 2011, producing wines under three labels: Mount Mary Vineyard, Marli Russell and Réflexion. All wines are estate-grown and made on site.
RP2 is the red counterpart to RP1, a southern Rhône-style blend of Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvèdre and Cinsault from estate plantings begun in 2008. The fragrant, fruit-forward style sits between Mount Mary's classic Quintet and Pinot Noir in weight: red and dark berries, white pepper, garrigue and savoury spice over a fine-grained, lifted palate. Matured in barrel for around 16 months, with the Grenache aged in large-format oak.
The estate prioritises soil health and biodiversity, with composting and minimal-intervention viticulture, and more than half the property dedicated to native conservation and revegetation. All winemaking takes place on site, with hand-harvesting and bottling under one roof.
