L'Altra, meaning "the other" in Italian, is the more approachable range from Cobaw Ridge, the certified organic and biodynamic Macedon Ranges estate founded by Alan and Nelly Cooper in 1985. The fruit comes entirely from their high, cool vineyard near Kyneton, and the wines are made with a light touch and minimal additions.
This red blends the estate's three red varieties, led by Syrah with smaller portions of Pinot Noir and Lagrein. The result is a vibrant, lighter-bodied wine with red cherry, cranberry, pomegranate and wild raspberry fruit, a herbal lift of sage and fennel, and lacy, silty tannins with bright acidity. It turns more savoury with air.
A versatile red to serve slightly chilled with pizza, antipasto, roast chicken or grilled sausages.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
