Bouffonne is a striking natural red from Maison Advinam, the Bordeaux venture of Anne Buiatti. Working from Saint-Morillon in the Graves, Buiatti farms organically and biodynamically, vinifies with no additives and bottles without fining, filtration or added sulphur.
This is an "hermitagé" blend in the old Bordeaux tradition, marrying the region's classic Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with a measure of Syrah. The wine is raised partly in oak barrels and partly in terracotta amphorae before being brought together in large foudres.
Expect the generous, plush fruit of Merlot alongside the finesse of Cabernet Sauvignon, lifted by a peppery, savoury edge from the Syrah. It is supple and energetic, a characterful expression of natural winemaking in Bordeaux.
