Massolino Barolo 2022 750ml
Massolino has been working the vineyards of Serralunga d'Alba since 1896, and this Barolo is the house benchmark. It draws on several parcels across the commune, blending them into a wine that speaks for Serralunga as a whole rather than any single site. The limestone rich soils here are the source of the structure and length that make these wines so age worthy.
Made entirely from Nebbiolo, the wine is aged for up to thirty months in large Slavonian oak casks before further time settling in bottle. The traditional approach keeps the oak in the background and lets the variety and the place do the talking.
In the glass it shows an intense garnet red, with a layered bouquet of red fruits, dried roses, warm spice and a delicate sweet edge. The palate is elegantly framed, with fine grained tannins, fresh acidity and flavours of morello cherry, star anise and orange peel. Classic Serralunga Barolo, and a natural match for braised meats, game and aged hard cheeses.
