Luigi Baudana is a small estate at the northern end of Serralunga d'Alba, farmed for generations by the Baudana family and passed to the Vaira family of G.D. Vajra in 2009, with Luigi's name kept on the labels and his counsel kept in the cellar.
The Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is the house's village wine, drawn together from the younger vines across the estate's holdings in Baudana, Cerretta and Costabella. The Nebbiolo is vinified traditionally and matured in large oak casks, which frames the fruit without marking it.
It offers a clear portrait of the commune at a more approachable scale: red cherry and raspberry with rose, tar, aniseed and a savoury mineral edge, carried on firm but fine tannins. It is best given five years or so in bottle and then enjoyed over the following decade and a half.
