Laherte Frères is a family-run grower house in the village of Chavot, in the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay, founded by Jean-Baptiste Laherte in 1889. Now run by the sixth and seventh generations, with Aurélien Laherte at the helm, the estate farms just over 11 hectares using natural and biodynamic principles, with parcel-by-parcel vinification, massal selection, gentle pressing and minimal dosage. Most of the wines are fermented and aged in wood.
Les Empreintes, meaning "the imprints", is designed to capture the essence of Chavot's terroir through two contrasting soils. It is an equal blend of Chardonnay, including the aromatic Chardonnay muscaté, grown on shallow soils over chalk, and Pinot Noir from richer, clay-laden soils over hard limestone. Finished as an Extra Brut with only a whisper of dosage, it shows both elegance and power.
Expect a vinous, textural Champagne with ripe orchard fruit, citrus and red berry notes from the Pinot Noir, layered with brioche and chalky minerality and a long, precise finish.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
