Koerner Watervale Riesling 2025 750ml
Watervale is the southern end of the Clare Valley and arguably the finest address in Australia for Riesling. Koerner's version draws on the family's Gullyview vineyard alongside fruit from the Parish site, with blocks planted as far back as 1923 and others in 1973. Gullyview sits on red clay over limestone while Parish is red clay over slate and ironstone, and the combination gives the wine both flesh and cut.
Damon and Maddy Koerner established Koerner Wine in 2014, working across the Clare Valley and their home block in the Adelaide Hills. Their approach is deliberately hands off, built around fruit quality and letting each site speak clearly rather than shaping it in the cellar.
This is classic Watervale Riesling. Lime juice and lemon blossom lead, with green apple, a hint of talc and a distinctly chalky mineral thread running underneath. The palate is bone dry and tightly wound, with piercing acidity and a long, crisp finish. Lovely now with seafood or Asian food, and it will reward a decade in the cellar.
