J.J. Prum is one of the legendary names of Germany's Mosel, a family estate revered for Riesling of grace, purity and astonishing longevity. Wehlener Sonnenuhr, named after the sundial on the hillside, is among the region's most celebrated vineyards, its steep blue-slate slopes lending the wines their trademark minerality.
This Auslese is made from riper, hand-selected grapes and sits in the sweeter part of the estate's range, yet it is defined by exhilarating balance rather than weight. Aromas of honeyed apricot, ripe peach and citrus mingle with white flowers, green apple and a stony, slatey undertone.
On the palate, luscious stone fruit and honeyed sweetness are held in perfect tension by racy, mouth-watering acidity, giving a sense of lightness and drive. The finish is long, pure and vibrant. Delicious in its youth, it also has the structure to develop wonderfully for many decades.
