Bricco delle Viole is the signature single-vineyard wine of the Vaira family, drawn from one of the highest crus in Barolo, on the slopes above Vergne in the commune of Barolo itself. The vineyard sits at around 450 metres on chalky soils threaded with iron oxide and manganese, with very old vines (some nearing a century) that give a distinctly perfumed, restrained personality.
The 2022 is a beautifully aromatic Barolo. Wild violets, hibiscus, geranium, red plum and wild strawberry sit at the front of a fragrant, lifted nose. The palate is full-bodied yet vertical, with finely textured, mineral tannins, real mid-palate amplitude and a long, stony finish. Inviting on release and clearly capable of decades of development.
A great match for slow-braised beef cheeks, agnolotti del plin, white truffle pasta or aged Castelmagno.
