Dr. Loosen is one of the Mosel's most celebrated estates, with roots in the region stretching back more than two centuries. Wehlener Sonnenuhr, or "Wehlen's Sundial", is the steep, blue-slate amphitheatre opposite the family home in Bernkastel and is regarded as one of the great vineyards of Germany; the Grosses Gewächs is the estate's flagship dry expression from the site's old vines.
The 2024 GG is svelte and precise. Lemon zest, white peach and spring blossom lift the nose, while the palate is lithe, slate-tinged and laser-focused, with citric acidity and the unmistakable cool, wet-stone minerality of the cru. The finish is long, taut and lingeringly saline, suggesting many years of cellar potential.
A serious dry Riesling that shines with raw oysters, sashimi, smoked trout or a lightly spiced Thai green curry.
