From the heart of Meursault in Burgundy's Cote d'Or, Domaine Rougeot Pere et Fils crafts this compelling Bourgogne Pinot Noir from the single-vineyard plot of Les Lameroses. Situated in northern Meursault near the border with Volnay, the vineyard's 45-year-old vines are rooted in clay-limestone and ocean marl soils at around 230 metres elevation. Led by eighth-generation winemaker Pierre-Henri Rougeot, the domaine has been certified organic since 2020 and is progressing through Demeter biodynamic conversion, with the 2023 vintage marking their first fully Demeter-certified release.
The fruit is hand-harvested and undergoes 100% whole-cluster fermentation in tank for 15 to 18 days with native yeasts and no added sulphur. The wine is then aged for 18 months in neutral barrels on fine lees before being bottled unfined and unfiltered in spring, with just 18ppm of SO2 added at bottling.
Savory and grippy, this is old-school red Burgundy at its finest. The nose offers bright red fruit — cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry — lifted by floral notes of violet. The palate delivers earthy minerality, subtle forest floor and damp limestone, all carried by fine, structured tannins. A beautifully authentic expression of its terroir that pairs wonderfully with roasted duck, coq au vin, mushroom dishes or medium-aged cheeses.
