Tolpuddle Vineyard lies in Tasmania's Coal River Valley, about 20 kilometres north-east of Hobart. Planted in 1988 and long regarded as one of the island's finest sites, it was acquired in 2011 by cousins Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith of Shaw + Smith. The fruit is hand-picked and transported to their Adelaide Hills winery for vinification.
The Pinot Noir is fermented with a portion of whole bunches, which adds lift, spice and a fine savoury edge. Expect red cherry, strawberry and raspberry fruit with floral notes of rose petal and violet, a hint of cinnamon, and a fluid, medium-bodied palate held together by fine tannins and bright, cool-climate acidity.
Serve with roast duck, seared salmon, mushroom dishes or a simple roast chicken.
