Mee Godard took over her Beaujolais estate in 2013. In 2017 she added a parcel in Moulin-à-Vent to her old-vine Morgon holdings. Her vineyards are certified organic and cropped at very low yields, and her wines are known for their structure, savoury depth and ability to age.
Au Michelon is her reference Moulin-à-Vent, from Gamay vines on sandy granitic soils towards Chénas. The fruit ferments in concrete with a portion of whole bunches and a long maceration, then the wine is matured in oak barrels and bottled unfiltered. It is a complex, powerful and structured style, with dark cherry and plum fruit, violet and spice, and firm yet fine tannins supporting a long, savoury finish.
Give it some air before serving in a large Pinot Noir glass, and match it with braised beef, lamb shoulder, venison or a hearty cassoulet. It will also reward cellaring.
