Mee Godard bought vineyards in three of Morgon's top sites in 2013, and the Côte du Py is the most famous of them. Her six-hectare estate is certified organic, with vines averaging around 60 years old, and she keeps yields very low to capture the character of each site.
The Côte du Py is an extinct volcanic hill just south of Villié-Morgon. Its blue clay and decomposed volcanic soils produce Morgon's most structured and long-lived wines. Mee blends fruit from several plots on the hill and ferments it in concrete with a portion of whole bunches and a long maceration, then ages the wine in oak and bottles it unfiltered. It is very floral and very mineral, with violet and dark cherry aromas, a medium-bodied palate of pronounced mineral acidity, and tannins that build into a long, compact finish.
Decant for half an hour and serve it in a large Pinot Noir glass with roast duck, beef bourguignon or lamb rack. It can be enjoyed now or cellared.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
