Mee Godard founded her domaine in 2013 around old vines in Morgon. She has since expanded into neighbouring crus, including Fleurie. Her approach is consistent across every wine: organic farming, very low yields, fermentation in concrete and an emphasis on savoury, structured Gamay built to age rather than simple fruitiness.
La Madone is one of the best-known climats of Fleurie. It rises towards the hilltop chapel of the Madonna that overlooks the village, where the vines root into thin, sandy granite soils at altitude. That elevation and poor soil give a Fleurie of real finesse and energy. Expect lifted floral aromas of violet and peony over red cherry and redcurrant, then a fine-boned palate with bright acidity, delicate tannins and a long, mineral finish.
Serve it slightly cool with roast quail, pork terrine, beetroot and goat's cheese salad or seared tuna.
Vintages may vary. Email us at hello@barrelandbatch.com.au if you would like confirmation.
