Côte de Brouilly from Frédéric Lafarge and Chantal Vial is a monovarietal Gamay from the volcanic slopes of Mont Brouilly in Beaujolais. The couple, better known for their Volnay domaine, bring the same meticulous Burgundian approach south, tending old vines biodynamically and fermenting with native yeasts in open concrete vats using around 25% whole cluster.
The wine shows the granite-and-diorite imprint of the cru — bright strawberry and cherry fruit meets notes of cocoa, pepper and wet stone, all framed by gentle structure and a mineral finish. Lively, fragrant and unmistakably site-driven, it sits comfortably between the silkiness of fine red Burgundy and the crunchy fruit of great Beaujolais.
Farmed organically and biodynamically across a small holding between Fleurie and Chiroubles, this is considered one of the benchmark expressions of the appellation.
